Australia is seeing a surge in Nepali migrants, with the community now one of the fastest growing in the country. This has brought some unique traditions and customs to Australia, making it a more diverse and interesting place to live. In this article, we will take a closer look at the Nepali community in Australia and what makes it so special.
The Nepali community in Australia is a close-knit one, with many people living in close proximity to each other. This has helped to create a strong sense of community and culture, which Nepali people are very proud of.
Nepalis have been migrating to Australia for many years now, but the community has seen a significant increase in recent times. In 2016, there were around 26,000 Nepali-born people living in Australia, and this number has only grown in the years since. The Nepali community is now one of the fastest-growing migrant groups in Australia.
The number of Nepal-born people living in Australia has increased by 67,752 people since 2016, an increase of 124 percent, the highest rate of growth of any migrant community in Australia. The community also achieved the second-largest increase in overall numbers, second only to the extra 217,963 people born in India who now call Australia home.
Around 48 percent of the community live in Sydney, 15 percent in Melbourne, 6 percent in Adelaide, 5 percent in Brisbane and Canberra, and 3 percent in Perth and Hobart. Another 2 percent live in Darwin and one percent live in Launceston. There are also small communities, consisting of hundreds of people, living in regional areas such as Newcastle, Toowoomba, Dubbo, Cairns and Bowral.
Australia has become a more popular destination in the past 10 years or so because of the easier path to permanent residency, work opportunities, and the laid-back lifestyle the country is well known for.
